April Update

It has been another busy month for our Student Parliament!

Pupil voice surveys

We started off the month still in lockdown with a key focus on our pupil voice surveys. Students had the opportunity to look at how we can encourage further reading across the school. There was a lot of interesting feedback including a ‘recommendation board’ by each department where staff can recommend further reading for students. Watch this space!

Students also fed back on their feelings towards returning to school. Pentrehafod was able to use this feedback to ensure that each child had a happy and safe return to school.

Finally, our latest pupil voice survey has focused on extra-curricular activities. Students suggested activities that they would like to see introduced in September and then voted for their top 3.

The winners were:
-Football
-Swimming
-Volleyball

Senior Prefects

This month, our senior prefects met to discuss feedback on behalf of the whole school and then fed back to Mr. Goulding. Key points this month have been –

-Prayer room for students taking part in Ramadan
-Extra-curricular activities for September
-Year 11 controlled assessments
-Further education and careers information provided earlier in school
-Assemblies
-Reading across the curriculum

More information on the above to follow!

Project Vote

Year 7-10 students have taken part in Project Vote over the last fortnight. Students have had lessons on the Senedd and the importance of voting and have been able to cast their own vote in a mock election. Students chose a party of their choice, alongside children from over 100 schools in Wales, to represent their area. Results will be published after the real election in May! An excellent opportunity for our students to understand the importance of elections.

UK Parliament Workshop

Year 8 students took part in a virtual workshop run by the UK Parliament. They were taught about how parliament works and how it affects their daily lives. Special thank you to Swansea East MP, Carolyn Harris, who joined for a Q&A session with our students – they thoroughly enjoyed.

Another busy month ahead of us with –

– Bullying project with year 9
– Transition work with cluster primaries
– Career information surveys
-Working alongside our eco-committee
-Summer term plans
-And of course our regular year council meetings to inform our planning.

Thanks for reading!
